Before you go

The marker stands about a hundred feet south of the Proctor Springs parking lot. From North 4th Street, Proctor Springs Road is the first right into the park. That approach is the one published with the marker.

The atlas lists marker 4130, erected in 1971, and does not list it as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. The 2024 page called the spring a historical landmark. The marker is real. Read the designation with that distinction in mind.

The marker text calls it one of numerous watering sites used by frontiersmen, a picnic spot for early Waco, deeded on May 24, 1910 by Flora B. Cameron and her family as the original grant for William Cameron Park.

The city describes Cameron Park as a large municipal park with trails, a disc golf course, and the Bosque and the Brazos. Those are the reasons to stay longer than the spring itself. This page does not rank the disc golf course.

Best season. Spring and fall are the comfortable months to walk the park. Summer is hot, and the shade at the spring is the reason people still come. Winter is quiet.
